Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 3:12-14

I think we are all prone to look back and live in the defeat of the past. The emotions, pains, and memories of these events are powerful. Sometimes we are reminded of them by an event, a repeated mistake, a feeling of shame, or a vindictive person who reminds us of them. Like all men, we're imperfect. But our imperfections should not drive us back. They should propel us forward. They should drive us forward to what lies ahead. God is beckoning us and calling us to look up and look to him.

Fellas forget the past. Forget it. If you have done business with your past and sought forgiveness, then it's time. You need to let it go. Just forget it. And start a new year with a new double effort — one that forgets and another that strains, presses, and strives after God. Are you with me?
