The Jews regarded Abraham as their father and the source of their spiritual blessings. They believed that simple physical descent from Abraham made them righteous.. kinda like how we Christians believe that going to church is our direct way to Heaven. They felt a need to keep a LAW to get in, and we today are trying to Uphold that same Law, and create new ones.
