Matthew 3:7-9 - But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, hew said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father,' for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
Romans 5:8 - but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Luke 18:9, 13-14 - He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt....But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

In Christ, we don't rely on who we are or on anything we've done - we're only sinners saved by grace.

Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:20 - For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Hebrews 10:3-4 - But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

We are able to stand before a holy God because of Jesus's death which paid for our sins.

Romans 8:28-29 - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Colossians 2:6-7 - Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

As we walk with Christ, we trust in Him for our salvation and also in helping us to become more like Him.
