There is a famine in the land. Instead of relying on God, Abram falls onto self-reliance, seeking refuge in Egypt. As they enter, Abram directs his wife Sarai to lie.

James states "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." We see this testing in Abram, how he responds and God's grace.
