A live stream hosted by #GregStafford weekdays and Saturdays starting around 7:30 AM PST. We meet for about 20-45 minutes to discuss biblical and other ancient texts which are grouped together for the discussion, as we progressively work our way through these ancient texts.
This show will be about Genesis 2:18-25 from translations of both the Hebrew (H) and Greek (G) texts:
(H) 2:18 Later on Jaho(h)-ah God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make an assistant for him, as his opposite."
(G) 2:18 Then Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] God said, "It is not so good for there to be only the man. We should make an assistant for him, patterned after [or, 'because of'] him."
(H) 2:19 So Jaho(h)-ah God continued molding from the earth every living creature of the open land, and every one of the flying creatures of the sky heavens. Then Jaho(h)-ah began bringing the creatures to Adam to watch what the man would name it. Every name which Adam would call out for each creature, that is what became the creature's name.
(G) 2:19 So [Jaho(h)-ah] God continued to mold from the earth all the creatures of the field and all the birds of the sky heaven and he led them to Adam to observe what the man would name the creatures. For every living creature [or, "every living soul"], whatever Adam would name it, this became the creature's name.
(H) 2:20 Then the man called out names for every animal and for every flying creature of the sky heavens, and for every living creature of the land. But for the man an assistant could not be found who was like him, as his opposite.
(G) 2:20 Adam called out names for all the pack animals and all the birds of the sky heaven and all the creatures of the field. But for Adam there was no assistant found who was like him.
(H) 2:21 So Jaho(h)-ah God brought a heavy sleep over the man and the man began to sleep. Then Jaho(h)-ah God began to take one of the man's ribs and afterward he closed the flesh over the man's ribs.
(G) 2:21 So God placed an altered state of mind in Adam and he went to sleep. Then God took one of Adam's ribs and he used flesh in its place.
(H) 2:22 Next Jaho(h)-ah God began to build a woman with the rib he had taken from the man. Then Jaho(h)-ah brought the woman to the man.
(G) 2:22 Then Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] God built into a woman the rib which he took from Adam, and God led her to Adam.
(H) 2:23 Upon seeing the woman the man said, "Now this is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. Therefore, this one will be named 'Woman' [or, ishah, in Hebrew], because she has been taken from man."
(G) 2:23 Then Adam said, "Now this is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. She will be called, 'Woman,' for from man she was taken."
(H) 2:24 Over this a man will leave his father and his mother and he will stay close with his wife and they will be one according to the flesh.
(G) 2:24 Because of this a man will leave his father and his mother and he will become one with his wife and the two will become one flesh.
(H) 2:25 At this time the two, the man and the woman, continued living naked without feeling any shame.
(G) 2:25 The two humans were naked, the man and the woman, but they were not made to feel shame.
