In this passage, we see a contrast between Laban who represents the world and Jacob, who immediately responded to God's instruction to leave. The passage is about learning to submit ourselves to the will of God - and how God enables us to do that. This passage is also a foreshadowing of the Exodus from Egypt and a foreshadowing of our deliverance from sin.
