In this passage of scripture we learn that in their wickedness, God inflicted loss on his people. Psalm 107:33-34 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. Verse 34 clearly states that it was the wickedness in their hearts that brought this about. It is a learning lesson for us all that we must be very cautious and careful to not allow our hearts to be open to wickedness. This wickedness it’s simply the sin we give ourselves to, based on the desires we open our hearts to. Throughout the Word of God, God makes it very clear that we are to be careful about what we open our hearts to. The Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? The truth is, God knows the human heart. Therefore He has sent forth His Word to clarify what is in fact right and wrong in His sight. It is up to us to make a conscious decision on who and what we will obey and follow. Will we follow the deceit in our own heart, the world, and our flesh? Or will we follow the principles found in the Word of God? The beauty of God’s love, grace, and mercy, is that if we simply cry out to Him in repentance, He will forgive us, and restore us back to Himself. In addition to that, if He chooses, He can also reverse the loss that we experienced when we were disobedient. Psalm 107:35-38 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. If God will restore and bless us when we cry out and repent, how much more confident can we be if we simply walk in obedience? So whether in loss or in blessings, God is always at work for our best interest, therefore HE is always worthy of thanksgiving and praise! Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. AMEN!
