Our God is a source of all joy, and He desires us to be joyful. I see that in the Bible, when He created the Garden of Eden, it was all good, it was supposed to be a place that is joyful, even for Adam and Eve. When God gave us the Bible, the Bible is intended to draw us back to Him that we may have joy, and Jesus Himself came to restore joy. The very first miracle He performed was at the wedding in Cana, where He turned the water to wine, from a time of possible disaster to great joy.
So God desires our joy and God is the source of all joy. But sin is the opposite; sin wants to rob you of joy because sin wants to separate you from God. Sin ruins joy. That's why in the Bible, God regularly calls us to repentance from sin, so that we may know Him and be joyful once again. He doesn't want us to continue living in separation from Him living in misery. And so in Psalm 51:12, the Psalmist David himself says, "Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit."
David had been living in absolute misery all this time when he is in sin. He refused to turn back to God, he refused to see his own sin, and so he was living in great misery. But now in Psalm 51, he cries out, "God, forgive me. And God, restore unto me the joy of Your salvation." And he knows that there is forgiveness with God because God is merciful.
My friends, today are you living in misery? It's really not just because of your environment; it's because of your sin in your life. And so don't hold out against God, repent and ask Him to restore and He will do so because He does it with His generous forgiving Spirit. May God bless you today with a wonderful beautiful restoration to God and to His joy, God bless.
