The goal of grace and mercy is not a “get out of jail free” card. The purpose of grace and mercy is to bring you to repentance. It's the recognition that you deserve punishment, but God suspended it to give you an opportunity to repent. We have all sinned and lived in ways that separated us from the Lord. Some sins, like abortion, yield great consequences, but Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was sufficient. So, when we show grace or mercy, it's not to extend license, it's to invite one another to repentance.
