One way to guard your heart when you like someone is to have the right goal for dating. Don’t try to marry the person you are dating at any cost. Rather, use dating as a tool to help you know if God does or does not want you to marry this person one day.

It’s similar to when shopping for a car. If you go on a test drive with the goal of buying this car no matter what, you will ignore red flags and make a bad purchase. But if you go on the test drive to see if this is a good car for you and to make sure there are not red flags, then you have a much better chance of buying a car you don’t regret.

Rather than trying to stay together no matter what in dating, use this season as a way of finding a greater clarity about God’s will for this relationship.
