There is a gospel phenomenon. And what is that? It’s when God comes upon a man and makes him like Christ—makes him like God Himself. Brethren, by nature we are a people riddled with partiality. We love to hate others. Even in a little neighborhood in Monterrey, you see it—people hating each other. But it’s everywhere; we are just riddled with it.

The phenomenon is this: God steps in and does something amazing. What does He do? He replaces our selfish ways. Mercy! The opposite of love is not hate—it’s apathy. Apathy! God replaces apathy with feeling, with emotions we’ve never felt before.

Brethren, has that phenomenon grabbed you? Has God stepped into your life? Did you behold the cross, come face to face with it, call upon the Lord, and have Him take that selfishness out of your heart? Did He replace it with a heart that cares?

It doesn’t mean there’s no fight. It doesn’t mean you don’t need exhortations like these. But as a rule, God has given you the ability to feel for the needs of others.
