“Has God Spoken to You?”
Hebrews 1: 1-3

Heb 13: 22-23, Heb 2: 3-4

Coming to faith in Christ had caused them great hardship and so they were now being tempted to go back into Judaism.
Heb 10: 32-34
Heb 5: 11-12

1. There is a ____________ revelation.
Vs. 1
1) In the _______ God spoke through creation.
Ps 19: 1-4

2) For a brief ________, God spoke to man by angels.
God did speak first to Adam and Eve.
But early on in Genesis, God was speaking to man through angels, they were the messengers.

3) In Exodus, God began to speak through _______________ men, such as Moses.
Ex 24: 3-4

4) God spoke to the children of Israel through the ___________.

5) God has spoken through the _____________
How did God speak through these men?
Peter tells us.
2 Peter 1: 20-21


2. Now there is a ________________ and final revelation.
Vs. 2-3
Vs. 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son
“In his Son, or by his Son”, speaks of the finality of God speaking.

1) Jesus is the Heir of all things
Ps 2: 6-8
Paul says that we should understand this concept of his inheritance.
Eph 1: 18
We are joint heirs with Jesus.
Rom 8: 16-19

2) Jesus created the universe
Vs. 2b through whom also He made the worlds;
Thus, Jesus is said to be the heir of the earth but also the universe and the world to come.
Col 1: 16-18
The word for universe here is the idea of “ages”
In another words Jesus created “time and space”
John 1: 3 1Cor 8: 6, Rom 11: 36, Col 1: 16
Heb 9: 27

3) Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory
Vs. 3 who being the brightness of His glory
He is not the reflection of the Father. He radiates the Father.

4) Jesus is the exact representation of God.
Vs. 3b the express image of His person

This is a reference of a coin that has been minted and the die from which it has been made.
Both have exactly the same image and yet both exist separately.

John 14: 9

5) Jesus is the sustainer of all things
Vs. 3b
It is by his spoken word that everything is held together.
Col 1: 16-17


6) Jesus provided purification from sin
Vs. 3b when He had by Himself purged our sins

When we speak of the substitutionary death of Jesus we must remember that this is only possible if He is God.


7) Jesus sits at the right hand of God
Vs. 3b sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Sitting down means that the work of Jesus is complete.
The term “Tetelestai” means, payment in full.

Jesus is at the right hand of the Father.
Why the right hand?
Here is in the place of power; it is the place of rulership.
Ps 110: 1
The right hand is also the place of honor.
Phil 2: 9-11

At the Right Hand He makes intercession for us.
Rom 8: 34-35


How do I overcome the stress of living?
Like these Hebrew Christians I need to get a bigger picture of Jesus.
