In other videos, we've talked about seeing God moving in our daily lives. But how do we SEE God? During the Sermon on the Mount, in the Beatitudes, Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:8,
"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God." - Matthew 5:8, NRSV
So the key to seeing God, then, is to be pure of heart? But how exactly do we accomplish that? What does it mean to be pure of heart?

It might seem impossible because we are constantly reminded of our fallen nature. Our sinfulness pulls us away from God, which also means we are pulled away from purity. So we are not "pure" by nature.
The first thing we need to realize is that "being pure" is not an adjective. It is NOT WHO WE ARE. Instead, it is a VERB. Being pure of heart, as Jesus described in the Beatitudes, is an action - something for us to strive for. It is a continual process throughout our lives.
What is that process? Of course, we begin by rejecting the world and its promises, and we begin to focus on what Jesus commanded us to do: to love God and love our neighbor. He told us that these are the greatest commandments.
Begin there. Focus on loving God and loving your neighbor, and we'll explore further in future videos on how you can reject the world and continue the process of becoming "pure of heart." In time, you will begin to SEE GOD moving in your life.
