In Luke 24:13–35, the road to Emmaus reveals a powerful truth: disappointment with God often comes from expectations that were never fully guided by Scripture. The two disciples believed in Jesus, but their understanding was incomplete—they expected glory without suffering, redemption without the cross, and victory without sacrifice. When those expectations were not met, they became discouraged and confused. But Jesus didn’t leave them there—He corrected them by opening the Scriptures and showing that suffering was always part of God’s plan before glory. In the same way, when our expectations are shaped by culture, emotion, or partial truth, we will misread God and feel disappointed. But when Christ opens the Word, He corrects our thinking, restores our faith, and turns discouraged hearts into burning hearts.
