But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. — Acts 13:50-52

Notice how the opposition escalates. Jews incited key influencers to stir up persecution which eventually drove the disciples out. And this is how it sometimes goes when we present any form of the gospel truth. Some people will be resistant to it. But the disciples shake it off, move on, and let the Holy Spirit lead them, and they exit with joy. I like this. They don't get all worked up. They don't become combatant. They present the truth and debate a little, but eventually, they walk away.

There are times we need to walk away. Walk away from a job, a relationship, and a confrontation. And if we have handled ourselves well, we should not interpret this as a personal loss or failure. Instead, it is a rejection of truth and Christ. All we can do is present the truth. And since the truth does not belong to us, but God, an opponent to this truth, actually opposes God's truth. And this is on them.

But this is also an excellent lesson for us. For when someone rejects the truth that we present, like a spouse, friend, colleague, or child, we are reminded of how we have rejected the truth. It's a strange moment of introspection. But when we present truth, and it's rejected, we reflect on how we have rejected the truth. And this makes me wonder if as Paul walked away, he reflected on how ten years prior he was that man too. A man who adamantly rejected the truth about Jesus Christ. And now look, he's on the receiving side of the same situation.

So present truth today. In some way. To someone. But at the same time, don't reject the truth about you. For someone may present some truth to you as well.
