Do you climb trees? Do you know Zacchaeus? He was the wealthy tax collector from
Matthew 19:1-10 who was too short to see Jesus, and so, he climbed up a sycamore fig tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus passing by! The story could have ended there with nobody any the wiser, but of course it didn't, because Jesus wanted Zacchaeus, too, to know him, and not just to see him. There is a little (or a lot) of Zacchaeus in each of us. For me, I was Zacchaeus once when I realised I had 'climbed up a tree' to see Jesus from afar, afraid of Jesus coming too close to me, getting to know me too well, and asking too much of me. But Jesus also said: "Hurry, come down. I am to stay at your house today!" Hence this song...
