Sermon Discussion Questions:

1. Elizabeth Barrett Browning writes, “Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes; The rest sit round and pluck blackberries.” What “common bushes” might God be inviting you to reconsider in order to see his presence in your life? What “blackberries” might be functioning as distractions to engaging with God’s presence in your life?

2. What are some of the things that Jesus said or did in the gospels that baffle you the most? What do you do with these scenes that don’t quite fit the boxes of your theology or personality? How might you allow these misfitting dimensions of Jesus to find appropriate space in your life?

3. God didn’t just invite Moses to ponder or reflect. He called him to an act of obedience. The same is true of Jesus – he called people to follow him as disciples in lives of obedience. Discovering God in our lives has just as much to do with acts of obedience as deep reflection. What act of obedience is Jesus calling you to in this season?
