The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. — Proverbs 18:10-11

I love many of the proverbs we have read, but this one is on my top 10 list for this book.

This one strikes at the heart of man's soul and his desire to provide for himself and others. And we learn here that how he pursues provision matters. He can pursue provision by accruing wealth, possessions, status, and his own significance, but this is only an illusion. It's a fictitious pursuit. Something imaginary happens in a man's mind that does little to actually provide. And while we might persuade ourselves into thinking our worldly wealth will provide us with some measure of strength and security, it doesn't. Wealth is not a means of strength or security because it is in constant flux. Don't believe me, then go fill up your car with gas, go to the grocery store, or try buying a used car — then explain to me how secure your financial security is. It's not secure at all. On the contrary, it's an illusion.

On the other hand, there is absolute security. It's not one we provide, but it's one God provides. It's provided by the only one who provides anything of real and lasting value. It's the security provided by the unchanging Lord, not the changing market, changing dollar, or changing weights and measures. And it's literally found in his name. His identity provides all the security we need. And his name has a particular set of characteristics about it. It is high, elevated, established, and strong.

So in your insecurity, "run" to the name of the Lord and discover safety and provision. Don't walk, stroll, or skip. He is strong. A tower of strength. Not some imaginary idea made up by mankind. Run to God today.

DO THIS: Seek the safety and security of God. He provides.

PRAY THIS: God, be my provision in my insecurity.
