In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him. Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king. And the king said to them, "I had a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream." — Daniel 12:1-3
We dream all the time. The average person dreams about 3-5 times each night. Most of the time, we don't recall these dreams. Psychologically we still don't fully understand why we see images in our sleep and the meaning behind them. But popular theories suggest we dream to consolidate memories, process emotions, or clarify desires we may have.
I don't know about you, but there have been seasons of my life that have been troubled by my dreams. They tend to happen when my anxiety is high, and my dreams become more vivid and memorable, which is Nebuchadnezzar's experience here. He had a very vivid dream. Therefore, his spirit was troubled, and it prevented him from sleeping.
Yet, in the case of Nebuchadnezzar, we know that God gave him these dreams. God troubled him with ideas and images that were so vivid he knew there was a meaning. So what he wants from his seers is the meaning of the dream. But not just that. He wants them to tell him about the dream that he had, which is a pretty tall and impossible order.
Have you ever been in a situation where someone has projected onto you their anxiety? Because their anxiety is so overwhelming that they present you with a problem that you can't possibly solve.
I hate to say it, but I encounter this situation every day. Every day I talk to a man who finds themselves in an impossible predicament; therefore, they come to me with a problem I cannot solve. Marriages in a mess. Careers in chaos. Families in ruin. Overwhelming addictions. And guess what? I feel the weight of these projected anxieties. And more than anything, I would love to remove their anxiety and repair the situation so they can find sleep and peace again, but I can't. But there is one thing I can do. I can pray for them. I can bring their impossible situation to the God of the possible.
So today, if you feel you are facing an impossible situation, let me and my team pray for you. Just share your requests in the comments below. And we will pray for you. We will bring your impossible nightmare and all its anxiety to a God who makes everything possible.
But Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." — Matthew 19:26
