Isaiah 7:13-16
"13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14 Therefore THE LORD HIMSELF SHALL GIVE YOU A SIGN; BEHOLD, A VIRGIN SHALL CONCEIVE, AND BEAR A SON, AND SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL.

15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings."

This text has a historical setting, which I do not lift forward here. Many will say that the Hebrew means "young woman" (not necessarily a virgin). However, Christians have always grasped these words as a Messianic prophecy.

The Passion Translation has many helpful footnotes. For Isaiah 7:14 footnote 's' we read,
"Although the ambiguous Hebrew word for “virgin” (‘almah) is more often translated “a girl of marriageable age,” the context is God performing a miracle sign (v. 11). This sign is not merely for Ahaz but for the family (house, including descendants) of David. There is nothing miraculous about a young woman having a baby; it happens every day. However, the Septuagint translates this word as “virgin” here as well as in Matthew’s quotation for the virgin birth of the Messiah (Matthew 1:23). No child with a human father could be the fulfilment of Immanuel, “God among us.” However, some scholars view Isaiah’s other son, “Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz” (8:3), as the Immanuel referred to here.

P.S. Why have I chosen a Japanese theme (in picture and in music)? Merely to highlight that the Gospel is for all peoples. Japan experienced strong missionary influence, grew weary of it and cast out all Christianity. That great people also need to hear the Gospel "as it is in Jesus". The recording could be repeated using influences from many (all) cultures, this one departs from the blond, blue-eyed Saviour we in the West are most often accustomed to, and invites the listener to welcome the fact that Christ died for all. 1 John 2:2 KJV "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."

Here is a testimony from a young Japanese woman, "Changed Lives - Light in the Darkness" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHvNAJTNioQ
