Jacob’s Idolatry Purged Again
Genesis 42:25 – 43:34
Halifax: 18 December 2016, 10:30 am
Some time ago in our Genesis sermon series, we saw how the Lord purged Jacob of his idol (in Genesis 35).
- He had made an idol of his wife Rachel.
- And in a time when Jacob had returned to the Lord, God took
Rachel’s life and he accepted it in faith.
- But in chapter 42 & 43, we find Jacob in need of purging again
because he had made Rachel’s two sons, Joseph and
Benjamin, into idols.
This week, we will be looking at how the Lord works to purge him as well as all of us from our idols so that we might serve Him alone.
- Last week, we saw how the Lord used Joseph to bring
conviction to Jacob’s sons for their wicked deed.
- They saw their sin clearly, but conviction of sin is not
repentance.
- This week, we will see how God purges Jacob of his idol,
bringing him to repentance.
- Next time, we will see how God uses Joseph to bring Jacob’s
sons to repentance.
