God alone is the Lord of the Sabbath since He created all things and instituted it to exist. God gets to decide its true intention and interpret its proper application in our lives. The Pharisees in Christ's time corrupted the Sabbath by adding their own human traditions; making it burdensome instead of a blessing. It's in this context that Jesus proclaims Himself the Lord even of the Sabbath; an exclusive title of absolute Deity. Only the Creator of the Sabbath is Lord of the Sabbath. No mere prophet of God can call themselves this. Christ has mastery and sovereignty even over YHWH's holy day.

The Sabbath was also given before Moses at creation. Therefore the Lord of the Sabbath is the Lord of creation.
