The Apostle John was keenly aware of the love of Jesus. John walked with Jesus, was taught by Jesus, stood near the cross while Jesus' was crucified for sins, and was an eyewitness to Jesus' resurrection for salvation. He points us to 4 distinct things about Jesus' love for his church in 1 John 3:14-18, (1) Jesus' love lives in his church. (2) Hate lives in those that are still dead in sin. Hating, whether actively or passively, is murder. (3) Jesus loves his church and showed it most evidently on the cross, dying for their sin. (4) Jesus' church loves each other like Jesus has loved them, selflessly and practically.
