Welcome to Calvary's Online Campus!
Did Jesus really predict His own death and resurrection before it happened? In this message from Mark 9:30-32, Pastor Robert walks us through one of the most remarkable passages in the Gospel of Mark — where Jesus clearly and deliberately prepares His disciples for the cross.
This isn't the first time Jesus said it. This isn't the last time either. And it was foretold centuries before in the Old Testament. The prophecies were clear. So why didn't the disciples understand?
In this sermon, Pastor Robert breaks down three key truths from Mark 9:30-32:
1. Why Jesus withdrew from public ministry to privately prepare His disciples — and what that teaches us about spiritual formation and discipleship today
2. The mission of the cross and resurrection — Jesus plainly revealed that He would be betrayed, killed, and rise on the third day. This was not a surprise. It was the plan.
3. Why the disciples still didn't understand — and how fear silences questions, blocks spiritual growth, and keeps us from the clarity God wants to give us
The prophecies of Jesus' suffering, betrayal, death, and resurrection were written hundreds of years before they happened — in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22. Jesus wasn't simply predicting the future. He was fulfilling a divine mission that had been announced long before His birth. Yet even His closest followers — the twelve disciples — couldn't grasp it. Why? Because they were expecting a conquering Messiah, not a suffering one. And because fear kept them from asking the questions they needed to ask. That same thing happens to us. We read clear Scripture, hear clear teaching, and still miss the meaning — often because of fear, preconceived ideas, or simply not asking God for understanding.
Pastor Robert reminds us that God equips us with everything we need through Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17), that He calls us to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6), and that He generously gives wisdom to anyone who asks (James 1:5). Understanding is not out of reach — it is a treasure God wants to give you.
We pray that you are blessed by the message!
