GRACEMOUNT COMMUNITY CHURCH | 270920
[1] Opening Reading | GALATIANS 2:20 | Over the last few weeks on Tuesday nights we’ve been meditating on and memorising this verse from the apostle Paul. It’s a reminder to us not only of what Jesus has done for us – he loved us and gave himself for us – but also of our constant need to abandon reliance on ourselves, and to live completely by faith in him. And once again, that’s where we need to start our time together today…
[2] Song ONE | HE IS OUR GOD
[3] Prayer | Guide us, O God, by your Word and Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find wisdom, and in your will discover your peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
[4] Reading | JOHN 13:31-14:3 & JOHN 18:15-27
[5] Sermon
In response to God’s Word let’s sing two songs that take our eyes of ourselves and place them on Jesus…
[6] Song TWO | THE KING IN ALL HIS BEAUTY
[7] Song THREE | KING OF KINGS
[8] Catechism | Having been reminded of our need to abandon all trust in ourselves, and to trust fully and completely in the Lord Jesus, let’s reinforce that by listening to how The Heidelberg Catechism explains what true faith is [a ‘catechism’ is a way of teaching the bible in an orderly way by asking questions and giving answers].
Q. What is true faith?
A. True faith is a sure knowledge whereby I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word. At the same time it is a firm confidence that not only to others, but also to me, God has granted forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of mere grace, only for the sake of Christ's merits. This faith the Holy Spirit works in my heart by the gospel.
[9] Reading | PSALM 84 | This Psalm reminds us of the blessing of trusting in the Lord and finding our refuge in him.
[10] Prayer | Johnny, who preached for us today, works for the FIEC [Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches]. GCC has just applied to join the FIEC. So as well as taking time to respond to God’s Word to us today, we’re going to pray for The Gate Church, Birmingham, who’ve also just joined [Video on Playlist].
[11] Song FOUR | REVELATION HYMN
[12] Blessing | EPHESIANS 3:16-19
[BONUS TRACK ON PLAYLIST | O CHURCH ARISE]
