Exodus 20:4-5 - "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God

When we worship God in our own way or with strings attached, we are only worshiping ourselves.

Numbers 8:19 - And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the people of Israel, to do the service for the people of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement for the people of Israel
Joshua 21:1-2 - Then the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun....And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, "The Lord commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock."
2 Peter 2:1-3 - But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words.
Mark 4:16-19 - these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

Beware of using religion to serve your own interests, rather than worshiping the one true God.

Luke 6:20 - "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdowm of God.
Luke 9:23-25 - "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
Luke 6:27-28 - "But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

Prosperity is never an end in itself, but can be used by God to florify Him by blessing others.
