Jesus chose Levi (Matthew) to be His disciple and that surprised the Jews because Levi worked as a tax collector for the Roman government. Therefore he was not considered equally to them by other Jews! However, Jesus was gracious toward Matthew and forgave his sins. Praise the Lord that we, as sinners, can come to God as we are- and be saved!
