In these few short verses Paul gives us eight descriptions of who Jesus is. There is no other portion of the Word of God which contains so many descriptions of the supremacy of Jesus Christ. Who is Jesus? This is an important question and it’s one that Paul answers because the Gnostics, the false teachers who had invaded the church at Colosse, were teaching that Jesus Christ was not the only way, but that He was only the beginning of many gods who would lead up the ladder to the true God. Does this sound like a time we are living in today?
