Regrets?
Worldly Regrets or Godly Regrets? There is a difference.
Regrets
A feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done.
Proverbs 22:3 Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it, but an unthinking person will walk right into it and regret it later. 4 Obey the Lord, be humble, and you will get riches, honor, and a long life.
We all have regrets, the important thing is, how we deal with them.
We have done things without thinking and acted out in ways that we regret.
If we hold on to them, they will control and consume us, but denying them is foolish.
If we are honest with ourselves we can deal with them, we shouldn’t push them aside, we should deal with the remorse and sorrow brought on by the actions we took that caused such regret.
Remorse / Sorrow
Remorse, Deep and painful regret for wrongdoing;
Sorrow, Distress caused by loss, affliction, disappointment, etc.; grief, sadness, or regret.
2 Corinthians 7:8 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while. 9 Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way.
James 4:9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
Let there be sorrow, let there be grief.
Let’s deal with our hurts, our pains, our shame. Work through it, bring it out before God and man and put them behind us.
Being honest with ourselves and recognize our shortcomings and character defects. Being honest with ourselves and identify and be accountable before God for the wrongs we have committed.
Owning all our junk, and never wanting to go back and repeat such behavior, that is Repentance.
Repentance
The action or process of repenting especially for misdeeds or moral shortcomings
2 Corinthians 7:10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
If we are living in God’s will, and we have true sorrow and remorse for our discretions, we can have no regrets. Not because we don’t care about our behaviors, but because we do care.
To see a sign or bumper sticker or Tattoo for that matter with the words NO REGRETS, implies that the person just don’t care.
But for us, it’s just the opposite, we MUST care. We must care deeply. We must show remorse, we must never want to do them again, we must repent.
Because, it is only through repentance that we can find redemption.
Redemption / Restoration
The act of saving people from sin and evil : the fact of being saved from sin or evil
‘But worldly (regret) sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death’.
Once we’ve owned our junk, call it for what it is; Sin, we can repent and receive forgiveness from God through Christ Jesus..
2 Corinthians 7:10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation.
