Today’s Verses: Matthew 25:1–3 (NKJV)
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them.”
Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins is a sobering picture of people who all looked ready, all carried lamps, all claimed to be waiting for the Bridegroom, but only half of them were actually prepared. The difference was the oil. Throughout Scripture, oil is closely associated with the Holy Spirit and His active work in and through a believer. The foolish virgins were content to be around the right crowd, say the right things, and carry an empty lamp. They let their oil run out. The warning is clear: it is possible to be religiously involved and still spiritually empty, to be busy with Christian things and yet not truly dependent on the Holy Spirit or ready for the Lord’s return.
So today, ask the Lord to show you honestly whether your “engine light” is on. So today, come before Him and confess any spiritual complacency, any habit of assuming you are fine because you are busy, around church, or doing Christian activities. Ask Him to fill you afresh with the Holy Spirit, to restore your first love, and to make your life a source of light, fruit, and blessing to other believers.
