Today’s Verse: Colossians 1:5 (NKJV)
“because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven”
Our world constantly tempts us to put our hope in what can be held, spent, or worn: a lottery ticket, a bank balance, a promotion, a ring, a new opportunity. Those things may be blessings, but they make terrible saviors. Money can evaporate, jobs can disappear, health can change overnight, and even the best relationships can walk through deep valleys. When we start trusting in what’s in our hands instead of the Lord who holds our lives, we set ourselves up for disappointment and then sometimes turn around and blame God for decisions He never told us to make.
So today, ask the Lord to pull your hope off of earthly things and fix it firmly on Christ in heaven. Let Him search your heart for places where you’ve been trusting in money, possessions, status, or even another person to give you what only He can provide. Choose contentment with what He’s given you, even if that means simple meals and a modest life, and thank Him that your true treasure is being kept where no thief, downturn, or diagnosis can touch it. Walk through this day remembering that you are not staying here, that your hope is laid up in heaven, and that the One who holds your future is worthy of all your trust right now.
