Today’s Verse: Genesis 28:16 (NKJV)
“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.’”

Jacob was strong-willed, opinionated, and very capable, the kind of man who was used to running his own life and winning his own battles. Yet God brought him to a place of isolation and weakness with nothing but a rock for a pillow, and met him there. When Jacob woke up, he realized the Lord had been in that place all along, and he had not known it.

As we come to the end of a demanding year, many of us can say the same thing. The trials, pressures, disappointments, and even the furnace of testing have not been random. Through the hardest and yet most fruitful stretches, God has been speaking, guiding, refining, and doing a deep work in the hidden parts of who we are.

So today, ask the Lord to wake you up to His presence in every place you have walked this year, especially in the hard ones. Invite Him to reach into the deepest parts of your personality, your old patterns, and your past, and to rip away anything that keeps you self-reliant instead of God-dependent. Pray that you would never again doubt His nearness, grieve His Spirit, or miss the chance to lift the name of Jesus wherever you are.
