Jesus was preparing His disciples for His soon departure to the cross and then His ascension back to Heaven. In His absence, His disciples were to continue to be recognized as those who followed Jesus. The distinguishing mark of Christ's disciples was to be love for one another. This love gives testimony to Jesus Christ and glorifies God.
