Sunday Sermon - Luke 23:6-12
Febuary 11th, 2018
Pastor Terry Kern

Sermon Outline:
Foolish, Hate-filled Humans Shamefully Treat Yeshua!
Luke 23:6-12

Introduction
Teaching & preaching the Bible is the clear mandate of the Scriptures to Pastors. We are told that every letter of the original writings of the Bible is “profitable/beneficial” for Christians. No “preacher” has something more important to say to people, than to simply teach and preach what God has said!

Pilate Passes Yeshua to Herod (Antipas) - Cowardly – Lk. 23:6-7
Pilate knew Yeshua was not a criminal & that the charges were false
Pilate was a coward thinking only of his own career – pure self-protection

Herod Harasses Yeshua - Gleefully – Lk. 23:8-9
Herod Antipas had murdered John the Baptist
Herod had no spiritual interest – Jesus had been ministering in Herod’s own backyard
Herod ‘totally trifled’ with Yeshua, the Son of the Living God!
Jews Accuse Yeshua - Vehemently – Lk. 23:10

The Jewish Leaders were vehement and determined to have Yeshua killed

Herod Mocks Yeshua – Contemptuously – Lk. 23:11
Yeshua had not spoken even ‘one word’ to Herod
Herod mocked Yeshua and ‘treated Him with contempt”

Herod & Pilate Become Friends – Foolishly – Lk. 23:12
Herod and Pilate had ‘history’ – but they became friends that day
Herod and Pilate are referred to in Acts 4:27-28 – SOBERING!

Timeless Truth
Herod Antipas lived for the vast majority of his life in the wealth and luxury that being a member of the Herodian Dynasty afforded him. And for three and one half of those years, he lived literally within earshot of the voice of GOD HIMSELF preaching and teaching the TRUTH. Herod Antipas had every opportunity to come to know who JESUS IS and to believe in HIM. But Herod squandered that glorious opportunity and he foolishly thought of Jesus, The Christ as a spectacle and an oddity rather than the Son of God. EVERY HUMAN BEING must personally and individually decide what they will “believe” with regard to JESUS, THE CHRIST. “…whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life … but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16 & 18)

Living Lesson
Most people waste their entire life pursuing goals of gaining more wealth and property and achieving more prestige and power in their workplace or business. Very few people focus their life on its proper purpose which is to bring glory to God by honoring Him and obeying His Word in every way we possibly can.
Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth … but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is there will your heart be also…But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.” (Mt. 6:19-21, 33).
