The Christian’s actions toward his enemies flow from self-denial. The Christian’s self-denial flows from God’s actions toward him. Since God showed us great mercy in dying in our place while we were still his enemies, therefore the Christian must also go and be charitable to the enemies of God for his glory and praise.
