When Jesus Christ died on the cross, he not only took the wrath of God the Father so that we may be forgiven for our sins, He also gave us access to God more than ever before. And this is shown by the tearing of the veil in the temple, demonstrating that Christ is our High Priest, giving us access to God personally though Him.
