Matthew 25:14-30 Sermon Notes
Intro - Story of Kitty Fickling.
Context - In Matthew 25 on top of the Mount of Olives, Jesus launches into three parables about His Second Coming.
Theme #1 - Everything that is Concealed Will be Revealed
The Coming of the Bridegroom/Master/King.
Theme #2 - Some Things that are Personal will never be Corporate
The Oil is our personal faith and could not be shared.
The Gospel is the Good News of the
Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Theme #3 - That which is Received and Risked will be Rewarded.
The 1 Talent Servant.
Matthew 25: 24,25 - ’Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’
Mistake #1 - The Mistaken Identity of Jesus - Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed,
Mistake #2 - Fear not Faith - so I was afraid,
The 5 and 2 Talent Servants.
Matthew 25:20,21 - ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Received - you delivered to me five talents
Ex. The Forgiveness of all my Sin.
Colossians 2:13 - 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.
Risked - I have made five talents more.
Jesus - forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Rewarded - Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
