A famous verse today. Lets fight the Good fight!
You are doing great, definitely because you are watching this video '-)
Here is the text:
1 Timothy 6:12, “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
Interesting points:
1. In this verse Paul strongly urges Timothy to remain steadfast in his faith despite life’s countless challenges, anchoring himself on the truth of his salvation about who God is, what He has done and the implications of what it means to answer God’s calling on his life.
2. The exhortation of “Fight the good fight of the faith” is a powerful rallying cry and reminder for us all. It reminds us that we are embattled – spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically -- by the World and the forces of our enemy. It also reminds us we have an obligation each day: to be ready to counter the dark with light, lies with the truth, and also to relinquish control to God rather than pridefully go about our own way. It is a battle because it is not easy.
3. Like Timothy, we cannot rely on ourselves for this battle: the words of our “good confession” which “take hold of the eternal life to which [we] are called” is our professions of faith when we accepted Jesus as Savior. In our profession of faith, we recognized our wretched and depraved hearts, acknowledged the one true God, and accepted Jesus Christ as our Master and our righteousness. When we recall the truth of those words, we gain the proper perspective: lies fall away -- whether it is false doctrine or the allure of temptation, we focus on the truly significant issues, we relinquish control to the Lord, and we see trials as both momentary and an opportunity to grow.
Application.
Brothers, many of us cannot remember our profession of faith -- it seems so long ago.
Today’s exercise is simple: write your own profession of faith down! These words are powerful because they distill the truth about God, the salvation He mercifully and graciously provided despite our sinful and destructive nature, and the fact that we have a personal advocate -- available 24 hours and 7 days a week -- ready to hear and lead us.
Not only do these words remind us of the Truth and check our attitude and prepare us each day as we fight the good fight of the faith, they serve as a guide as we share our faith with others, and lead them in the prayer of accepting Jesus as Lord of their lives!
May we always encourage other to fight the good fight!
