Oke guys, already the last verse of this week. Beautiful and short verse today but definetily with great gain (:
Here is the text I'm reading:
1 Timothy 6:6, “But godliness with contentment is great gain.“
Interesting points:
1. Contrasted against the false teacher’s unhealthy motivation of amassing wealth, with this verse Paul introduces this section concerning the proper Christian attitude towards wealth.
2. Prior verses described the flaws common in false teachers. These include aspects such as quarreling, strife, and evil suspicions. Envy was also mentioned indicating the false teacher is often seeking to gain what others have. In contrast with the sinful lives and desire for profit by false teachers, Paul tells us that "godliness with contentment is great gain." In Philippians 4:11 Paul wrote, "Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content." He could live with little or plenty because he knew God could supply all his needs as He saw fit.
3. But how is godliness with contentment great gain? “Great gain” tells us that contentment provides a large or wonderful advantage. Those who live in a way which honors God, and who are satisfied with whatever they have, possess a strong spiritual life which helps them through life's difficulties. We can read that in Proverbs 15:16 which says, “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.”
Application.
Brothers, this is a powerful verse when we reflect on it. When our focus is our intimate relationship with God we begin to see both his abundant blessing and the wonderful miracles He performs before our eyes.
More than our provision, the results of actions He calls us to take, the way He uses us to bless others and even the beauty of the world He has created are some of the ways that living righteously with contentment provides us great gain.
May we learn what it is to be content in living victoriously no matter what our circumstances are. Each of us has a unique mission to achieve wherever He places us. We are not here by “accident”!
