Hello, this is Kelli from Sanctuary Family Farms. I will be reading from Daniel 4:30-32. In this passage, King Nebuchadnezzar is speaking how about how great he is and how he has built his kingdom by his own power.
“The king spake, and said, “Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?”
While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, “O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most high ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.”
The entire chapter of Daniel 4 is the complete story, but for brevity, only 3 verses were read today. I believe it captures one of the key components of the story. King Nebuchadnezzar had convinced himself that he built the Babylonian Empire by himself. He believed he was as powerful as God. God had tried to tell the king for years that he was prideful and narcissistic. He built the kingdom for his sake, not God’s.
God told him the kingdom had departed from him. The once great and mighty king ate grass like a cow for seven years. What a humbling dose of reality. Any time we perform any action for our own glory or believe that we do it in our own power, we pull farther from God and farther from being able to hear Him and be led by Him…thus allowing the flesh to rule and reign over the spirit.
Think about who’s kingdom you serve today.
