We started this Mother's Day, 2022 services with congregational hymns followed by our Choir singing to the Lord. Afterwards, two special ladies sang to end the Special Music program.
Pastor Rains then came to the pulpit to read the text from the Bible for a message entitled "Mothers Are Wonderful!" from Exodus 2:1-9, Hebrews 11:23. After reading the text, Pastor thanks God for wonderful Mothers who raise their children in the admonition of the Lord. He also prayed for everyone who attends or watches MBC online. He prays for souls to be saved and also for the elderly in our church who are ill. Pastor then began the sermon:
• INWARD Condition
The sermon began with the story of Jochebed, Moses' mother and her dedication to her God and our God. The spotlight for this message is on the importance of women to God's plan. Pastor's goal is for all women to understand how very important mothers are in instilling in their babies the knowledge of the one true God.
Jochebed showed great faith in the midst of a horrible situation in the nation that was holding the nation of Israel in slavery. The Egyptian Pharaoh sensed the Hebrews slaves were becoming too populace and he needed to stop their growth. His method was to kill all male babies to prevent most pregnancies in the future. This was a political decision that mankind has used and is using even unto today. Moses's mother hid her baby for as long as she could but then had to make a seemingly frightening decision. God had obviously placed Mose' family in a location very near a spot where Pharaoh's daughter always bathed on that spot at the river's edge. Jochebed devised a plan (inspired by God) to build an arc that was waterproof to carry Moses to that spot along the river. She was very bold INWARDLY and showed no fear of Pharaoh's order and instead trusted that God would use Moses for his glory! Here we find that, contrary to Hebrew and worldly cultures, God found great value in how a Mother can be a vital instrument in God's plan that men can't fulfill.
• OUTWARD Involvement
Pastor points out that mothers who are trusting God will NOT lose your babies if you dedicate and raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. In the situation in this message we find that Jochebed's OUTWARD Involvement led to her being able to continue to nurse and teach baby, toddler and young child Moses even after being "adopted" by Pharaoh's daughter. Jochebed sent Moses' sister Miriam to observe Moses' short journey in the river and after Moses is discovered she suggests to Pharaoh's daughter to have the child's mother to nurse him! Moses' mother now can continue her motherhood with her precious child who will be the foreshadow of the "deliverer" of Israel...our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
• UPWARD Influence
The influence of Jochebed on Moses is an object lesson for christian mothers today! By her UPWARD view, beliefs and ideas were instilled in a child who probably didn't fully understand what he was being taught at first came to the forefront of the decisions he'd make during a crucial time in his life. Moses would recognize that the Hebrews were the people of God and regardless of the wealth, fame and comfort of Egypt's reign, Moses would deny all of it to take God and his nation Israel's side! This UPWARD Influence is the kind of stance God wants all christians in America (and the rest of the world) to take. We must put God above the wealth and comfort of our once great nation and recognize the same evil patterns that Egypt fell into and was punished for.
