For at the window of my house I have looked out through my lattice, and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense, passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness. — Proverbs 7:1, 6-9.
So, son, this text captures how I think many men feel as fathers. They feel like they see things that their sons do not. And most fathers, not everyone, can see the future of a bad decision mainly because they have made their share of bad decisions. And because of this, when they see younger men walk a certain road, they instinctively know where that road leads. They know what lies in wait at the end of the road. But sometimes, they feel this and never communicate it.
So here is my covenant to you. When I see other young men walking a road that leads to destructive behavior, I will tell you what I see and where that road leads. I will do that because I think most fathers see these events and never say a word. And this is not your failure. It's ours. But when I do this, please listen to my wisdom and never forget it. But don't just listen to the wisdom. Remember the covenant I have made. It's a covenant I made to you to be the very best father I can be.
ASK THIS: What covenant do you need to make? Or what wisdom do you need to heed?
DO THIS: Act.
PRAY THIS: God, thank you for your wisdom. Make us better fathers. Make us better sons.
PLAY THIS: Father's Song — Matt Redman
