Paul is speaking to us about our new life in Christ. He is saying if you are risen in Christ, you are dead to your old life. My new life IS in Christ and I want to live and walk as He lives and walks. So there are some things from my old life that I have to take off, like dirty cloths. Paul gives us a couple of lists here of things that need to go. The first list we read in verses 5 and 6, these are sexual in nature and now we come to a second list in verses 8 and 9. Paul's second list deals with sins of speech: Each of these sins are primarily committed by what we say.
