In today's reading, we learn about two characters: Peter's mother-in-law and a teacher of the Law. Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law, and she immediately began to serve Him and His disciples. On the other hand, a teacher of the Law approached Jesus and declared that he would follow Jesus, except he needed to go and do something else first. Peter's mother-in-law didn't allow outside circumstances to overtake the calling the Lord placed on her life; however, the religious scholar let the world tug him away from the higher mission Jesus invited him to.
