PASTOR TIM's NOTES

Revelation 6:9-17
“The Day of God’s Wrath”

Zeph 1:14-16
1. The fifth seal REVEALS the persecution of believers.
Vs. 9-11
1a. The fifth seal REVEALS souls under the altar.
1) The most common view is that they are martyrs from the 1 half of the
Tribulation.
The second view;
2) These are the martyrs of history.
Since the text says they "had been slain,"
Heb 11:35-40
Either way we note two things about them.
1) They have a special place in the heart of God and here they are honored
in a unique way.
2) They were found "under the altar."
This does not refer to the altar of incense, but rather the altar of sacrifice.
1b. The text REVEALS why they were killed.
Two reasons are given as to why they were killed: "for the word of God and
for the testimony which they held."
Rom 1:16-17, Rev 12:11-12, Rev 19:10
1c. The fifth seal REVEALS an appeal for vengeance.
1) They appeal to God's character and sense of justice as they cry,
2) They also appeal to His sovereign authority over all the earth when they
address him as "Lord."
Rom 12:14-21
1d. The fifth seal REVEALS the reward they will receive.

5 Theological Conclusions from David Hocking’s book, Coming World Leader.
 The dead are conscious and aware of the promises of God.
 The dead are conscious and aware of the righteousness of Christ that has
been given to them. Rev 7:14-15, Titus 3:4-5
 The dead believers are resting.
 God's plan is right on schedule.
 Many believers will be killed during the tribulation period.
2. The sixth seal RECORDS a series of supernatural disasters.
Vs. 12-14

2a. The sixth seal RECORDS a great earthquake.
Matt 24:7-8
2b. The sixth seal RECORDS a change in stellar space.
The event depicted here was predicted by the prophets
Isaiah, Joel, and Amos over twenty-five hundred years ago.
Isaiah 13:6-16; Isaiah 34:1-4; Joel 2:30-31; Amos 8:9-10

2c. The sixth seal RECORDS all mountains and islands are
removed.
3. The REACTION of unbelievers includes an acknowledgment of
God.
Vs. 15-17
3a. The REACTION of unbelievers includes all mankind.
The entire population is in a panic!
3b. The REACTION of unbelievers will be to hide.
3c. The REACTION of unbelievers includes the question of
“Who Can Stand?
The cry of verse 17 is "who is able to stand?"- an echo of
Malachi's words about the coming of the Lord:
Psalm 46
Who can stand? It is those who have come to God as their refuge.
