One of the greatest enemies facing the church is jealousy. Even we, the children of God, can be guilty of allowing the success or promotion of others to blind us to what God actually wants from us. If God has not given us the job or position, we want, it is because He has something else for us at this time. Anything we do that is different from what God has for us should be considered a regrettable step-down. It is especially dangerous when jealousy causes us to speak against someone whom God has anointed for special service, as we see in this week’s lesson. God showed that He would not tolerate anyone coming against the leader He had anointed to nurture and care for Israel as they journeyed to the Promised Land (Bible, Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2021).
