None of the disciples of Jesus expected a resurrection, and following the resurrection, they struggled to understand it or believe it. In these verses, God is the one taking the initiative to make sure that they "get" it. God is at work establishing the faith of His people in the resurrection of Jesus. God has done this through visual evidence (an empty tomb), through angelic testimony and, now, He is about to do it through the testimony of the risen Jesus Himself.
