A Christ-follower’s goal is to continually grow and mature in the Lord and the things of His Kingdom. It’s like a journey of cultivating a garden of godliness in your life. To do that consistently and effectively, you will have to intentionally nurture your thought life and just as intentionally develop the words you express because your thoughts lead to your words. And frankly, those words will ultimately define your reality—thoughts, words, reality, destiny. That means we must have a change of thought and a change of the words that proceed from your thoughts in order to gain a different future. All of this grows out of guarding your heart. If you want to cultivate goodliness, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23, NIV).
