The relationships we enjoy with family members and close friends are our greatest earthly treasures. Yet Jesus is asking us to treasure Him more and to place greater value on our relationship with Him. This may seem like a radical request, but not when we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Jesus wants to transform our life into His glorious image, but for this to happen, we must give Jesus the greatest place in our life. The means to doing this is worship. The more we take time to meditate and reflect on the person and work of Jesus, the more His value will grow in our hearts.
1) What makes your family relationships particularly precious to you?
2) What gives Jesus the right to demand that we love and value Him more than our relationship to our family and friends? Do you believe this is a realistic demand?
3) Why must we value Jesus more than anything else? How might our unwillingness to do this undermine our relationship to Jesus?
4) In Philippians 3, the Apostle Paul considered everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Jesus? How did He come to this conclusion? What can we do to grow the value and worth of Jesus in our lives?
