We could view our patience as barrier or a dam that keeps the flood of our anger at bay. When people irritate us, it’s like they’re taking a pick-axe to our patience and chipping away at our restraint. But when James talks about patience, it has nothing to do with the aggravating idiosyncrasies of others. Instead, the duration and intensity of our patience has a lot more to do with the promised return of our Savior and Judge, Jesus. The Spirit empowers us to live patiently in light of eternity.
